The Basic Difference
A non-inverter air conditioner has two states: full and off. The compressor runs flat out until the room is cool enough, stops completely, then restarts at full power when the temperature climbs. That cycle repeats all night.
An inverter varies compressor speed continuously. Once the room hits the set temperature it eases down to a low level and stays there — just enough to hold the temperature, with no stopping and restarting.
Why That Saves Power
The most expensive moment in an air conditioner’s operation is the compressor starting. That start-up surge can be several times normal running draw. A non-inverter goes through it dozens of times a night; an inverter goes through it once.

For a bedroom running eight hours a night, the bill difference typically lands between RM35 and RM55 a month. At that rate the price gap comes back within 14 to 22 months — and the unit still has eight years of life left after that.
When a Non-Inverter Still Wins
That calculation depends entirely on usage. If the unit runs ten nights a year in a guest bedroom, the RM781 difference will never come back within the unit’s life.
A non-inverter makes sense for guest rooms, air-conditioned storerooms, or any space used occasionally. For a daily bedroom or living room, the inverter is almost always the better financial decision.
